About SUDA

State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) being a Registered Society was formed in the year 1991 under the aegis of erstwhile Municipal Affairs Department, Govt of west Bengalwith an objective to ensure effective implementation of different development programme in urban areas of the State.The Chairman of the General Council of SUDA is the Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Urban Development &Municipal Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal while the Secretary UD & MA Departmentchairs the Governing Body of SUDA.

SUDA was initially entrusted with the implementation and monitoring of two Centrally Sponsored Programmes, namely, Nehru RojgarYojana (NRY) and Urban Basic Services for the Poor (UBSP). Subsequently, in last few decades SUDA implemented Integrated Low Cost Sanitation (ILCS) Programme, Urban Health-related programmes, SwarnaJayantiSahariRojgarYojana (SJSRY), Integrated Development of Small & Medium Towns (IDSMT), Urban Infrastructure Development for Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), Integrated Housing & Slum Development Programme (IHSDP), Rajiv AwasYojana (RAY), Comprehensive Capacity Building Programme (CCBP) under JnNURM, National Urban Informatics Survey (NUIS) etc.

In September 2017, SUDA was restructured merging CMU,(Change Management Unit) anotherregistered society under UD & MA Department with extended responsibility for establishment of an improved governance in urban areas of the State keeping a widerdevelopment vision.

Presently SUDA is implementing and monitoring several National Flagship Programmes including Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Special BRGF Programme, PMAY-Housing for All (U), National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), National Urban Health Mission (NUHM), Swachh Bharat Mission/Mission Nirmal Bangla (Urban), National Social Assistance Programme(NSAP) and also the urban reforms activitiesthrough 125 urban local bodies of West Bengal.
