Midnapore Kharagpur Development Authority has been constituted in 2003 with a planning area of 596.76 sq. km. MKDA has been rendering all sorts of assistance in identification of suitable land, preparation of sketch maps and acquisition of lands by direct purchase for setting up Industrial and social Infrastructure around Kharagpur with the help of WBIDC and District Administration.
The main object of the MKDA is to provide planned development of Midnapore and Kharagpur townships and adjoining rural areas and public amenities, preservation and conservation of historical heritage. The other objective of the Authority is to determine zones for use as residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, fishery, forest. With proximity to Kolkata and accessibility of mineral resources the Authority has ample scope of development of industrial and service sectors. Besides, the proposed Iron & Steel Plant, a host of engineering industries has already come up and some others in the offing.
The ongoing projects are development of link road from Sahachak to TATA Metaliks, extension road from TATA Metaliks to Kansabati Rly. Bridge, construction of community latrine in slum areas of Midnapore and Kharagpur Town, widening and strengthening of Duk Bungalow road from Kankabati to Kansabati river.
The Authority has planned to take up the projects which are construction of Diesel/Gas Operated Crematorium, Truck Terminus, construction of connecting road from Torapara to NH-60, Housing Projects, Multi-shopping and Commercial Complex at Kharagpur and beautification of Kangsabati River Front etc.
