Digha Planning Authority was initially constituted in the year 1990 with 16 mouzas as its planning Area. Later on its area was extended upto 42 mouzas under Digha P.S. and Ramnagar P.S. with 8752.63 acres of land.
Subsequently, the Planning Authority was transformed into Digha Development Authority with effect from 19.12.93 with a view to ensuring rapid growth of Digha & the adjoining areas. The Authority consists of 12 members including a Chairman, which is presently held by the Sabhadhipati, Midnapore Zilla Parishad.
The nomenclature of the Authority has been changed from Digha Development Authority to Digha Sankarpur Development Authority w.e.f 15.07.2004 vide U.D.Deptt Notification NO.1667-T & CP/C-2/2C-4/2001 dated,15.07.2004.
Aims & objectives
To prepare a Development Plan for the entire 42 mouzas including Digha & Shankarpur.
To undertake development projects & schemes within the area & to monitor the development works undertaken by different agencies / bodies / institutions.
To develop Digha & Shankarpur as attractive beach tourist resorts.
To control unauthorized growth and haphazard constructions within its area & to oversee the entire development works.
To provide essential services to the tourists & residents of Digha & adjoining places.
Digha Development Authority has already taken up several steps for the promotion of tourism at Digha, viz. :-
Preparing Master Plan for Digha and Shankarpur.
Acquiring land about 200 acres from Development & Planning Department for creation of tourism infrastructure.
Engaging private entrepreneurs for development works.
Providing essential services like street light, conservancy, sewage, drainage facility, beach light etc. The on-going projects of the DSDA (Digha Sankarpur Development Authority) are 20 nos. of link roads with total length of 9 km, 1 no. of bituminous road of 5.5 km. and development thereof. DSDA has conceived of arrangements to prevent erosion at Digha and a Technical Committee has been set up to examine and recommend measures towards the same.
