Institute of Local Govt. And Urban Studies (ILGUS)
In order to
enhance the capacity of elected members and appointed personnel of
the Urban Local Bodies of the State through adequate training and
also to cater to the needs of research in urban affairs and
municipal administration and for publication of monographs, journal
etc. the Institute was set up in 1982 under the overall control of
the DLB. It became a separate organisation in 1985
Function of ILGUS
to impart training to the elected representatives and personnel of urban local bodies of the state.
to impart training to the functionaries of poverty alleviation programmes as well as members of community based organisations.
to impart training to the functionaries of north-eastern states of the country under poverty alleviation programme.
to organise seminars, workshops etc.
to function as a nodal training agency under Kolkata urban services for the poor programme.
to function as a nodal tanning agency for JNNURM
to collect information from urban local bodies and disseminate the same.
to publish monograph, journal etc.
to undertake research in municipal affairs of the state.
